Account deletion
You can delete your PinMatches account and the associated data at any time, from the app or — if you no longer have it — by writing to us. Deletion is permanent: it cannot be undone.
1. From the app (the quickest way)
- open the app and log in;
- go to Profile (person icon, at the top of the screen);
- tap “Delete account”, at the bottom of the page;
- confirm: the app asks “Do you really want to delete your account? This action is irreversible.”
Deletion is immediate. You are logged out and the app returns to the login screen. Nothing else is required.
2. If you no longer have the app
Write to contact@pinmatches.com. The link below opens a message that is already drafted; you only need to complete it:
Your message must state:
- the exact username of the account to be deleted (the name chosen when signing up);
- the approximate date the account was created;
- your explicit request for deletion.
Why these details: PinMatches collects no name, no email address and no phone number (see the privacy policy). We therefore have no way of automatically linking a sender's address to an account. If any doubt remains about the account holder, we may ask for further information that reasonably establishes it — for example the sports you turned on or a match you recently created. A request that is manifestly unfounded or excessive, in particular because it is repetitive or systematic, may be refused under section 34 of Law 25. A request that cannot credibly be linked to an account is refused: that is what protects your account from being deleted at someone else's request. In that case, the safest route remains deletion from the app, where you are already authenticated.
Time frame: we acknowledge your request and process it within a maximum of 30 days, in accordance with PIPEDA and Law 25, and usually within a few days. You receive a confirmation once the deletion has been carried out.
3. What is deleted, what is kept
Deletion is immediate and permanent: your username and password are erased, and your username becomes available again. Messages you posted and matches you created are kept without any link to your identity, so as not to break other participants' conversations and get-togethers; they are deleted at the end of the 12-month retention period.
| Data | When the account is deleted |
|---|---|
| Account, username and password | Deleted. The username becomes available again for a new sign-up |
| Selected sports | Deleted |
| Matches you have joined | Kept without any link to your identity. You appear as an anonymous participant to the other players, who thereby keep a complete match |
| Matches you have created | Kept without any link to your identity: you appear as an anonymous organiser. Deleting them would cancel, without notice, the matches of the other participants who depend on them. They are deleted at the end of the 12 months |
| Chat messages you have sent | Kept, with an anonymous author, then deleted at the end of the 12 months following their sending. Deleting them would break the conversations of the other participants, who asked for nothing; they remain visible to them until then |
| Reports concerning you | Kept for as long as necessary to handle the report and, where applicable, to establish a breach — including after the account has been deleted (legal moderation obligation) |
| Diagnostic logs | Kept for the period stated in the privacy policy. They are redacted of your identifiers before being sent |
| Data left on your device | Login token, display language and list of blocked users: erased by uninstalling the app (the token is erased as soon as you log out) |
Chat messages are not deleted at the same time as the account: they were sent to other participants, who keep a record of them in their conversation; only their author becomes anonymous, and their retention period is 12 months at most (see the terms of use, section 7). A specific message may be removed earlier if it has been reported and breaches the rules.
4. What deletion is not
Two other actions are sometimes confused with it:
- Logging out erases the login token and the data cached on the device (profile, sports, matches, chat history), but does not delete the account.
- Withdrawing your consent to the terms of use (Profile) logs you out and blocks access to the service until the terms are accepted again. Here too, the account is not deleted.
Uninstalling the app does not delete your account: it still exists on our servers. If you have already uninstalled it, use the email request described in section 2.
5. Other rights
Deletion is only one of the rights available to you: access, rectification, restriction, objection and portability are exercised at the same address. The details are in the privacy policy, section 11.
